UKRAINE INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES (UIA) SAFETY CARD

UKRAINE INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES (UIA) SAFETY CARD
UIA approached Inflight Dublin to design a new series of safety cards for 5 different aircraft types. As a key piece of safety information to be viewed by every UIA passenger the main challenges of this project were as follows. We needed to develop an illustration style that allows for clear communication of the important safety information whilst making it look contemporary and engaging. All key safety messages needed to be covered as per the aviation authority guidelines. Identify key scenes and illustrations, with the client, that were common to all 5 aircraft types and identify what was specific to each type. To fit a lot of critical information into a limited space as clearly and elegantly as possible. To ensure the design reflected UIA’s brand guidelines. With 5 different aircraft to illustrate I needed to manage the budget to ensure we didn’t overspend on illustration resources.
DEVELOPING A STYLE

Working closely with UIA and the illustrator we worked through these challenges. Firstly reviewing the aviation authority guidelines to ensure we had mapped out the key scenes and messages to be illustrated.

I worked with a fantastic illustrator to find an illustration style that was clear and modern. We also developed a sympathetic colour palette which would compliment the UIA brand colours. I oversaw the design team as they worked with UIA to gather all the visual references we would need to clearly illustrate the safety procedures and equipment.

We also developed a bespoke icon set to complement the more complex illustrations.
COLOUR CODED

In order to help with the logistics of ensuring that the ground crew could easily identify the different safety cards quickly I integrated into the design a colour code system and clear aircraft descriptor.
